Found in the Orange County, Cypress is home to 47,802 residents as recorded by the2010 census. The area was once prized for its artesian wells, earning the title “Waterville” by locals, but was eventually incorporated by the name Dairy City by its dairy farmers. After World War II the land had become too valuable for the dairies to remain and the proprietors eventually sold out to housing developers so that by 1970 no dairies were left. The city was named after Cypress Elementary School, built in 1895, it was named after the Cypress trees planted there in order to protect the schoolhouse from high winds. In 1981, the city of Cypress inaugurated a yearly birthday celebration for the city. The event is the singly largest one-day event of its kind in the county.
