A suburban city in the Los Angeles County area, Norwalk is home to over 105,540 residents up from 103,298 as recorded by the 2000 census. It is known as the 58th most populous city in the state of California, and 255th nationally. Incorporated in 1957, Norwalk is part of the Greater Los Angeles County region. It is one of the members of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments. Norwalk's sister cities include: Michoacan, Morelia, and Hermosillo, Sonora, in Mexico. Home to the Hargitt House, a house built in 1891 by the D.D. Johnston family, was later turned into a museum and donated to the people of Norwalk. It's open the first and third Saturday of the month.
