known as the fifth largest city of the Los Angeles County area, Pomona is found in the Pomona Valley, between San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire. The city is home to 149058 residents as of the 2010 census. Named after the ancient Roman goddess of fruit by horticulturalist Solomon Gates, his entry into the contest to name the city “Pomona” was chosen in 1875, long before any fruit trees had ever been planted there. Pomona has been growing since the development of the Phillips Ranch, its newest neighborhood, in the 1980s. The city is also the birthplace of Pomona Electronics.
