Its pleasant climate makes it a popular destination year-round, for tourists and locals alike. Its famed for its beautiful Spanish Colonial style architecture, and it referred to by its motto: “Spanish Village by the Sea”. Its city tree is the coral, and its flower, the Bougainvillea. Its popularity increased when President Nixon bought part of the H.H. Cotton estate. He called it La Casa Pacifica, but locals referred to it as the “Western White House”. The term is now commonly used to refer to a Presidents vacation home.
