A city of Orange County, San Juan Capistrano is found approximately 23 miles southeast of downtown Santa Ana. The area is home to a population of 34,593 residents and was created around the local Mission San Juan Capistrano. Many of the local architecture of homes and strip malls resembles that of Spanish style architecture. It has the widest variety of homes in the Orange County area, with many built prior to 1900, a portion of 10 million dollar homes in gated communities, and working ranches found at the foothills. San Juan Capistrano is also home to an indigenous population of cliff swallows which migrate annually from their other home in Argentina.
